Where the most fashionable people go to escape reality
Dear readers,
.
A word that has lately been surfacing in my vocabulary radar isWanderlust(which for those of you who don’t know means a strong desire to travel).
Wanderlust can be interpreted in every sense of the word. It can be approached in the most literal manner; an actual eagerness to physically pack a bag and “wander” somewhere different. Nevertheless, other depths and dimensions of the word can equally be explored and used to define a situation or emotion. For instance, one can be consumed by wanderlust of past experiences, i.e. mentally travelling back in time by evoking retrieval cues from our long-term memory storage, of times when we were exploring unknown territory, or escaping our day-to-day urban surroundings. Comparatively, wanderlust can sometimes even be depicted through our creative outlets. As a species, we have a craving for discovering alternate realities and existence. As such, it is unsurprising how literary novels such as Utopia by Thomas Moore, The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift or even Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling (which BTW are all worth reading if you haven’t already) are universally popular and acclaimed; seeing as they arouse and induce the surrealist within us which is eager to travel into different realities and dimensions other than ours; evoking our innate need for wanderlust, both physically and mentally.
.
By now you are probably thinking this is a philosophy or etymology thesis (for which I hold myself fully accountable for), and as much as I would love to go on about the nature and scope of the word Wanderlust, it is perhaps more beneficial if I get straight to the point!
.
We all know that one person who travels all the time, non-stop, and makes us suuuper jealous of their globe-trotter lifestyle (that person may even be you, in which case, good job, you have succeeded in life!). But you know who travels more than them? Celebs. More specifically, fashionable celebs.
.
Why, you ask? Well, in Hollywood (i.e. celebville) money isn’t an issue when travelling…the real issues are privacy and exclusivity (first world problems, I know). These are people who are surrounded by lights, people and camera’s on a daily basis, and so when the chance emerges to go on a leisurely trip, they value alone private time (sounds fair enough, no?).
Fashionable celebs will usually go the extra step and become trend-setters in their choice of location.
.
Naturally, not everyone can afford to go on these lavish holiday retreats, so I decided to compile a list of exclusive, covetable, and dream holiday locations, some more attainable than others, but all with the one similarity: they are the preferred location for the fashionable elite to escape reality.
.
Keep reading to find out some of the unique and most utopian locations, selected by the fashionable VIP’s of the world….with one Warning note: A sudden wave of Wanderlust will strike you.
Hamptons
Despite the wavering temperatures and windy atmosphere, The Hamptons seem to always be on trend, and a Hollywood favourite. Those of you who Keep up with the Kardashians will know they had a whole series dedicated to the Hamptons (Kourtney & Khloe take the Hamptons). However, the Kardashian Klan aren’t the only ones who enjoy the Hamptons lifestyle; everyone from J-LO, Sofia Vergara, Leo DiCaprio to Gwyneth Paltrow have been seen enjoying the East End amenities.
Hamptons overview: A fashionable getaway location for the most affluent people to enjoy beach-side martini’s, leisurely sports tournaments and art exhibitions.
Don’t forget to pack: Your designer shades and swimwear!

Great thoughts! I have a mad case of wanderlust and am constantly in dreamland thinking of the time I spent a summer in Paris. And I’m DYING to go back, but obviously a job and other priorities come first! Thanks for the thoughtful post 🙂
